The Best Anal Masturbation Toys

We talk loads about masturbation on AMM, because masturbation is awesome and good for you, but we don't often talk about anal masturbation so we thought we'd have a look at some of our favourite things to use when we take ourselves out on a date via the back door... And give you some suggestions for additions to your toy box.

Douche before you get down & dirty!

Even when you're solo playing it's nice to be clean and fresh, and an anal douche is a cheap and relatively easy way to give yourself peace of mind before you get down and dirty with yourself. You don't need anything too fancy or whizz-bang, just a pump and tube set up that you'll find at any adult shop or pharmacy.

Warm, soapy water is all you need to flush yourself out, but it can take a couple of goes to properly clean everything out, so be aware you'll need the shower to yourself for a while.

Please remember that butts and vaginas are very different body parts and we suggest you NEVER douche your vagina because it can cause all sorts of imbalances and infections and can even lead to life-changing events like infertility or serious complications!

However, while douching your butt to clean it out is slightly uncomfortable and messy, if done correctly shouldn't cause any damage to your bits and insides, and is a perfectly safe practice.

Eva Suggests: Lovehoney Anal Douche. Colt range of anal douches.

Purchase an Anal Trainer Kit

Whether it's your first foray into anal play, or you're a seasoned professional, an anal training kit is a veritable toybox in one that everyone should have in their sex drawer. Basically it's a kit that consists of around 3 to 5 different anal toys of varying shapes and sizes to help you learn how to use, and get used to using, anal toys. Starting small and thin and building up to longer and thicker, they are usually well priced considering the number of items in the box, and the variety of ways and plays they can be used in.

Eva Suggests: Lovehoney Bumper Booty Bundle. Tracy Cox Supersex Anal Beginners Kit.

Pump up your anal play with Inflatables

Exactly what they sound like, an inflatable butt toy is a toy for your butt that pumps up and grows wider while you use it. Perfect for training a butt to take larger items, or for those "I just wanna be stuffed full" moments, they are relatively easy to use and will also come with a quick release button just in case it gets a little too much. I would always suggest with a toy like this you spend a little more than you would on a budget item, and read reviews from users, as I have heard of cheaper ones popping or not lasting very long, and I don't have to tell you just how much it would ruin the moment having a rubber balloon burst inside you.

Eva Suggests: Cock Locker Inflatable Range. Bootycall Inflatable Range.

Include a Cockring

Guys, I don't need to tell you just how amazing anal play is for those with a prostate and a penis, but I will anyway because (according to all the penis/prostate people in my life) it is so good it should be shouted from the rooftops daily. Playing with them both separately is cool, but simultaneous play is utterly mind blowing and should be attempted at every opportunity, and considering cockring/butt plug combo toys were one of the most popular male sex toy products I ever sold in my life as a sex shop employee, I reckon the secret is getting out. Like most sex toys, they come in a variety of shapes and sizes and prices, and you're sure to find the perfect one for you.

Eva Suggests: Fun Factory Booty Ring. Lovehoney Inside Job

Prostate Specific Toys

A prostate specific anal toy is a little different to a butt plug and, for a lot of (straight, cis) men, actually seems a lot less "taboo" to buy than a plug for a few different reasons, but mainly it's because, for the most part, they don't really look like dicks in any way. If anything they more resemble a finger. They aren't "plug" shaped or confronting looking, and usually they are longer than a regular plug, but thinner and slightly curled in shape, all specifically designed for comfort of insertion as well as length to reach the prostate. Experimenting in that area can be quite nerve wracking for a lot of people, so having something sleek and discreet to use can absolutely take away a lot of that anxiety and leave plenty of room for pleasure.

Eva Suggests: Aneros Range

Add some Vibrations

Whether you like a deep, inner rumble or a more buzzy sensation, buying toys with the option to vibrate is always a great idea cos it essentially becomes two (or more) toys in one! For anal play I would always suggest you buy one that comes with a remote control, purely for ease of use, cos fumbling around with fiddly buttons from behind where you can't see is annoying and distracting, and then if you ever decide to share with a friend, there's all the fun you can both have with a remote control toy. It's up to you whether you choose to use battery operated or rechargeable, both come with their pros and cons, but do try and remember to take batteries out when you're not using it, or make sure it's charged up for each time you use.

Use plenty of lube

Lube is absolutely ESSENTIAL to anal sex. That tender skin is not as malleable or elastic as inside a vagina, and it doesn't naturally lubricate itself either, so making sure everything slides in easily is vital to a good time.

In my professional opinion the best lube to use for anal sex is the Pjur range of anal specific lubes. They have a whole line of lubricants and serums designed for back entry comfort, containing natural relaxants (no numbing or desensitising agents) and long-lasting formulas.

If you're just wanting no-frills buy-from-the-chemist lube, some people prefer silicone lube because it is ultra long lasting and won't dry out or go too sticky, like water based lubes can, but a lot of people don't love it because it can damage silicone sex toys and leave stains.

The next best thing would be an "anal specific" water based lube as that's usually thick and gel-like and lasts a lot longer than usual, and there are also some hybrid water and silicone lubes that take the best out of both lubes (washable, long lasting) and put them together.

I don't usually suggest oil-based lubes because they really can cause more damage than good, but a lot of people like coconut oil for a sex lube, so I'll chuck a mention of it in here for those too, but be aware it won't be good for condoms, and like silicone can leave oily stains on nice stuff.

Please don't use anything that numbs the area. You need to be able to feel it to know how it's going, and you can do some pretty bad damage to the area if you're not careful.

Eva Suggests: Pjur Analyse ME range. Wicked Jelle (water based). Uber Lube (silicone based) Jo Hybrid (water and silicone)

Anal play really has lost that "only deviants and gay men" bias, and we at AMM are all for it. More sex and more orgasms can only lead to a happier society and that's something we can all benefit from. Always remember to use anal specific toys made from body safe materials, and always make sure you practice safe sex.
